When a news item becomes a myth

On 13 October 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed in the Andes. Of the forty-five passengers on board, more than half survived but waited a long time for help, in extreme conditions. Italian director Fabiana Iacozzilli investigated with the survivors and bereaved families to reconstruct the ordeal endured. In a set depicting a dilapidated plane carcass, the actors openly manipulate human-sized puppets inspired by Giacometti's sculptures, ghostly and fragile figures of the survivors, resisting as best they can, braving hunger, cold, isolation and the death of some. And the drama achieves the power of myth.
