Sweat Like An Ape ! (release)

L’Astrodøme and DEUS EX MACHINA Bordeaux present, SWEAT LIKE AN APE_22H30 (alternative tropical dance-punk / Bordeaux) Should we keep dancing to ward off the ills of our era? That is what the quartet Sweat Like An Ape!

seems to affirm, returning in 2026 with a new album, Something In The Way We Spin.

Since 2015, the Anglo-Aquitaine band has carved out a special place in the hearts of fans of scorching, incantatory rock’n’roll, thanks to incendiary live performances and albums that navigate with tightrope grace between post-punk, dance-rock and art pop.

Darker yet no less danceable, sometimes cinematic and narrative, this short record has a lot to say. Post-punk is occasionally tinged with atmospheric post-rock tones (The Bridge).

The band has fun writing grim twists (Shed of Skin) or ballads for voodoo-practising crooners (Statues). On (Wish Upon A) Movie Star, you might think you are hearing Devo fraternising with The Clash, while Visions of Doreen takes on the accents of late-1970s New York post-punk.

Spin revisits the band’s fundamentals, an infectious dance-punk, here more ethereal than in the past. The album ends with the 9:36 epic Doreen’s Song where singer Sol Hess’s spoken word shatters against noise-rock crescendos that capture all the band’s power in concert.

For Something In The Way We Spin, recorded live at Château du Plessis near Tours, wonderfully does justice to the complicity of the four musicians who have always made their concerts joyful, liberating celebrations.

A second record worked on alongside Rubin Steiner, Something In The Way We Spin benefits from the post-production expertise of the exploratory musician, capable of bringing varied colours and unexpected dialogues between these raw and terribly lively rock’n'roll tracks.

Released once again by parent label Platinum Records (France) and P572 (Canada), Something In The Way We Spi
