Académie de l’Orchestre de Paris

Under the musical direction of Klaus Mäkelä and Olha Dondyk, two great spiritual pages respond to each other in the closing concert of the Summer Academy of the Paris Orchestre.

For this third session of the Summer Academy, forty-five young musicians from around the world experience an intense orchestral experience playing alongside musicians from the Paris Orchestre.

Organized in two parts (Summer Academy, then Studio Academy in spring), the Academy is now well-established in the realm of high-level music pedagogy with its original model of perfecting through immersion.

This closing concert of the Summer Academy is, at each session, an opportunity to discover the new generation of orchestra musicians.

Between metaphysical torments and beneficial grace, the two works on this "wordless" program explore the human condition, from the alienating power of chaos to the peaceful revolt of prayer.

Imposing, staging the struggle of the individual against brutality, barbarism, and all forms of alienation, "Liturgique" (1946) is both the largest and most known of Arthur Honegger's symphonies.

Liturgique, Camille Saint-Saëns' "Organ Symphony" (1886) is also, offering a masterful demonstration of composition.

With its great architectural chords, its radiant stained-glass lighting, the organ intervenes only in two of the four movements, not as a soloist, but as a color bringing its solemn spirituality.
