Caché au Creux d'un Matelas

Company Perpétuelle Étincelle. Written by Loïc Rojouan and Vincent Toujas. Directed by Loïc Rojouan. Assistant director: Margaux Douat. With Gloria Da Queija, Alexandre Patin and Loïc Rojouan.

In the turmoil of Bordeaux in June 1940, Jacques, a jovial and wisecracking shopkeeper, decides to record in a book the 'on-dits' (rumours) circulating in his shop, a blend of humour and absurdity fuelled by the arrival of the German occupier.

He then meets Daniel, a teenager with a dazzling gift for drawing, and their artistic partnership gives birth to an incredible collection, biting and subversive. But as repression intensifies and denunciations pour in, their satire becomes perilous.

Forced to halt the adventure, Jacques hides their manuscript in a mattress, waiting for better days… This true story of a book born from an unlikely encounter comes back to life on stage, to finally pay the tribute its two creators deserve. For all ages from 11 up.

Running time: 1h10. Co-presented with iddac, the cultural agency of the Gironde Departmental Council.
