Cécile Evrot

Cécile Evrot develops a distinctive songwriting style, at the crossroads of French chanson and flamenco. Her debut album Dévers (the inclination, the slope) explores the beauty of what leans within us, and this quest to stand upright despite everything. From her deep immersion in flamenco, she retains a clear fondness for solar dissonances, bars with obscure time signatures and that particular voice timbre which captures the soul. On a piano that is by turns urgent and melancholic, she unfurls melodies that gently tug at the chest and sometimes stray beyond the verse/chorus format. The songwriting is always at the centre, intense and poetic. Alongside Cyril Billot and Sabrina Romero, she leads us from twilight ballads to luminous flights towards an elsewhere of familiar mystery.
