Chris Lovasoa Kauffmann - Mammoth Steps

Chris Lovasoa Kauffmann's work is a quest concerning the transmission of knowledge, and it examines how that knowledge is transformed by its dissemination, by the context and by the voice that carries the stories, or reclaims them.

The Mammoth Steps exhibition offers an exploration of our fascination with the past, drawing on a multitude of cultural, scientific and pop-cultural references.

This desire to bring the past back to life and to truly live it is the starting point of Time and place: a day in Pompeii (2025), a multichannel video set in an escape room inspired by Pompeii.

Before studying painting at an art school, Kauffmann became known online through DIY videos he posted, notably on YouTube.

This way of presenting oneself, the play with identities and the free sampling of post-internet aesthetics remain an experience that continues to nourish the artist's practice.

Within this body of work, the fantastic sits alongside the banal, following the artist's reflection on how images circulate, how they are monetised and how they shape social and identity hierarchies. Co-produced with Halle Nord - Geneva. Curators: Claire Hoffmann, Elise Lammer
