Clayton Stephenson - Piano

A pianist who graduated from the Juilliard School and the New England Conservatory, Clayton Stephenson became in 2022 the first Black finalist in the legendary Van Cliburn competition. A true multidisciplinary prodigy, he makes his Paris debut with a programme in his own image: intelligent, daring, monumental. Bach-Busoni's famous Chaconne opens the way to the Spanish folk landscapes of the first book of Albéniz's Iberia. Rhythm is also a cornerstone in the writing of Prokofiev's Sonata No. 7, one of the composer's three Soviet war sonatas. The Debussy-inspired jazz of Bill Evans and Hiromi Uehara closes this recital, which blurs the boundaries between genres.
