Overview
In recent years, Glasgow has established itself as a true hotspot for jazz. alto, the group led by the talented composer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall.
On stage, Shortall captivates the audience with his keyboards while moving with astonishing virtuosity from guitar to bass and then to trombone.
Their debut album, Bad With Names (2023), has an accessible sound, yet beneath the surface it hides a multitude of subtle tempo variations. The group excels at weaving a range of styles – hip-hop, broken beat, dub and punk – into the fabric of jazz.
The result is a bewitching fusion that pushes the boundaries of contemporary jazz.
