Hailing from Wallasey, near Liverpool, The Boo Radleys formed in 1988, taking their name from a character in the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird". The band, initially comprising Martin Carr (guitar, vocals, composition), Sice (vocals), Tim Brown (bass), and Rob Cieka (drums), quickly captivated attention with their inventive approach to pop. After early days marked by shoegaze experimentation and psychedelic sounds, notably on albums like "Ichabod and I" and "Everything's Alright Forever", they evolved to assert a more accessible, yet still sophisticated, sonic identity. Their most prolific and recognised period spans the 90s, where they successfully blended complex arrangements with catchy melodies.

Their most famous album, "Giant Steps", released in 1993, is often cited as a masterpiece of British indie pop, demonstrating their ability to navigate between rich sonic textures and memorable choruses. But it was with the single "Wake Up Boo! " in 1995, from the album "Wake Up! ", that they achieved resounding commercial success, becoming a pop anthem of the era. This track perfectly embodies their talent for creating songs that are both joyful and melancholic, carried by Sice's distinctive voice and Martin Carr's ingenious arrangements. The band split in 1999 before reforming several years later, initially without Martin Carr, then gradually returning to a line-up closer to the original for recent tours.
