Originally from Wallasey, near Liverpool, The Boo Radleys formed in 1988, taking their name from a character in the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird". The band, initially composed of Martin Carr (guitar, vocals, composition), Sice (vocals), Tim Brown (bass), and Rob Cieka (drums), quickly captured attention through their inventive approach to pop. After debuts marked by shoegaze experimentation and psychedelic sonorities, notably on albums like "Ichabod and I" or "Everything's Alright Forever", they managed to evolve to assert a more accessible sonic identity, yet always sophisticated. Their most prolific and recognized period spans the 1990s, where they succeeded in marrying complex arrangements with catchy melodies.

Their most famous album, "Giant Steps", released in 1993, is often cited as a masterpiece of British indie pop, demonstrating their ability to navigate between rich sonic textures and memorable choruses. But it's with the single "Wake Up Boo!" in 1995, extracted from the album "Wake Up!", that they achieved resounding commercial success, becoming a pop anthem of the era. This track perfectly embodies their talent for creating songs that are both joyful and melancholic, carried by Sice's distinctive voice and Martin Carr's ingenious arrangements. The band disbanded in 1999 before reforming several years later, initially without Martin Carr, then with a gradual return to a formation closer to the original for recent tours.
