Dirty Closets is a documentary performance addressing the theme of economic-sexual exchanges in a colonial context, the coming out of sex workers, and the needs for collective and historical reparations expressed therein.

What if the actions and voices rising today carried more ancestral needs for justice resulting from yesterday's history?

Jamal Phoenix and Marianne Chargois, two contemporary sex workers, both have genealogical lineages rooted in countries colonised by France, in the West Indies and former Indochina.

Between genealogical-biographical narrative and the exploration of minority life, the two performers attempt to answer the silences of their history: caught in issues of gender, class, and race, what economic-sexual intimacies did their ancestors experience?

With live presence from sound creator Mona Servo and visual artist Thy Truong Minh, Dirty Closets tells stories from yesterday's industrial colonial era to today's neo-colonial and neo-capitalist one.
