Gogo Penguin + Daudi Matsiko

GoGo Penguin, the "power trio" from Manchester and its hybrid jazz, nourished by classical and electronic influences, is about to celebrate 15 years of existence.

15 years of a journey as atypical as it is brilliant, which has made them one of the flagships of the renewal of current jazz.

Their music, both immersive and energetic, rests on precise ensemble playing, between catchy piano melodies, unpredictable rhythms, powerful bass and striking drums.

With their latest album "Necessary Fictions" (Sony Music, 2025), Chris Illingworth (piano), Nick Blacka (bass) and Jon Scott (drums) push audacity and freedom even further, integrating modular synthesisers, the Moog Grandmother and electric bass into their instrumentation while maintaining their identity: obsessive loops, mounting tensions, tempo variations and more peaceful respirations.

An atmosphere ultimately very cinematic which has also opened the doors of the 7th Art, with the soundtracks of "Memento Mori" (Jean Heches, 2022) or the very recent "Just an Illusion" (Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, 2026).

An essential group, then, that speaks to the body as much as to the mind! The music of Daudi Matsiko, British-Ugandan songwriter, is fragile, spiritual, disarming and of gripping honesty.

His first album "The King Of Misery" (Really Good, 2024) is both a poignant and luminous exploration of depression, bipolar disorder and how hope can emerge from these experiences.

His fragile yet inhabited voice, his profound lyrics and his contemporary folk melodies give his songs rare intensity. Hushed, whispered, caressed songs… A chant like a confession, carried by barely touched guitar strings.

Each note, each syllable, shines through its presence or its absence; an incredible and delicate dialogue between music and the soul of its author, about which one no longer knows
