For nearly a quarter-century, GoGo Penguin has traced a singular path in today's jazz landscape, at the borders of electronic and repetitive music.

After a period of personal and artistic reconstruction that gave birth to the very introspective Everything Is Going to Be OK in 2023, the Manchester trio reconnects today with a certain serenity and a taste for new horizons.

This is what radiates from Necessary Fictions, seventh album released in summer 2025 and patiently crafted in a studio transformed into a true laboratory.

Chris Illingworth (piano), Nick Blacka (bass) and Jon Scott (drums) prove to be both faithful to the band's identity and adventurous in their search for new sound textures, with increased use of modular synthesizers and the presence – on two tracks – of strings from Manchester Collective.
