Guillaume Meurice

Guillaume Meurice Why are we in the shit up to our necks? (and how not to bow our heads) The far right is at the gates of power, the Fifth Republic is on its deathbed, French democracy is wavering, and Bernard Arnault has had seconds of truffles twice in the canteen.

' How did we get here? By selling off our democracy, which was nonetheless our pride? By letting darkness win over the land of the Enlightenment? By considering voting for Retailleau to block Bardella? By letting François Hollande think his opinion was still legitimate?

In short, we are in the shit. That is the verdict everyone worried about civil liberties is reaching at the moment, in more polite terms. Still, one must ask why. In his new show, Guillaume Meurice traces the historical causes that led us to this fiasco.

Failed revolutions, electoral fiddles, constitutional sleights of hand, betrayals... and so on. The path is chaotic and not devoid of absurdity. Along the way we meet Clovis, emperors, Louise Michel, Charles de Gaulle, Aurore Bergé...

We discover that power (ALERT SPOILER) is a violent poison. But. Because there is a 'but'. Guillaume Meurice also explores the means and tools at our disposal to turn the tide and fight our greatest enemy: resignation.

So, arise, children of the fatherland (and beyond), the day of glory may not be as far off as we think.
