Guillaume Meurice

Guillaume Meurice Why are we all up to our necks in shit? (and how not to bow our heads)

The far right is at the gates of power, the Fifth Republic is on its last legs, French democracy is wavering, and Bernard Arnault has had seconds of truffles twice at the canteen. In this lecture-style show, Guillaume Meurice explains how we got here, how to resist, and how to prepare for what comes next, so that, as Victor Hugo almost said, we can "astonish catastrophe with how little fear it causes us, damn it!"

How did we get here? By selling off the democracy that was once our pride? By letting darkness win over the land of the Enlightenment? By considering a vote for Retailleau to block Bardella? By letting François Hollande believe his opinion still carries weight? In short, we are in deep trouble. This is the verdict that everyone worried about public freedoms is reaching right now, in more measured terms. But we still need to ask why.

In his new show, Guillaume Meurice traces the historical causes that led us to this fiasco: missed revolutions, electoral scheming, constitutional sleight of hand, betrayals, and so on. The path is chaotic and not without absurdity. Along the way we meet Clovis, emperors, Louise Michel, Charles de Gaulle, Aurore Bergé... and discover that power (ALERT SPOILER) is a violent poison. But. Because there is a "but."

Guillaume Meurice also explores the means and tools at our disposal to reverse the trend and fight our greatest enemy: resignation. So, come on, children of the fatherland (and beyond), the day of glory may not be as far off as we think.
