Gypsy jazz — Solène Cairoli, in residence at 38Riv, brings together an exceptional trio to revisit the masterpieces of the legendary Django Reinhardt.

New York-born clarinettist, saxophonist and composer Hillai Govreen joins Rio de Janeiro-based seven-string guitarist Artur for an intimate exploration of the musical links between jazz and choro.

Born into a rich family musical tradition, Artur has a deep knowledge of the traditional repertoire as well as the distinctive rhythmic language of the seven-string guitar.

Hillai, for her part, is influenced by many Brazilian composers and brings her experience of jazz improvisation and contemporary creative music.

Together, they blend lyrical melodies, improvisation and the rhythmic richness of Brazilian music to create a soundworld that is both deeply rooted in tradition and open to spontaneous discovery.

Drawing on Brazilian instrumental music, South American composers, the jazz repertoire and their own arrangements, the duo highlights the affinities and bridges between these different musical worlds.

Through the warm resonances of the seven-string guitar and the expressive voice of the clarinet and saxophone, their performance celebrates dialogue, listening and the power of music to transcend languages, cultures and geographical borders.

As part of the Jazz sur Seine 2026 festival. Line-up: Hillai Govreen: clarinet, saxophone; Artur Vidal: seven-string guitar. The 38Riv Jazz Club is an intimate venue in the heart of the Marais (38 rue de Rivoli, Paris 4th), dedicated to jazz and improvised music.
