The Galerie Les filles du calvaire presents the first solo exhibition of French photographer Julie Joubert on the first floor of its historic space at 17 rue des Filles du Calvaire.
Patria Nostra, is the outcome of three years of immersion within the French Foreign Legion. With this series, she won the Public Prize of the Prix Découverte Fondation Louis Roederer at the 57th Rencontres d'Arles. Through a body of photographs taken across several of its structures, Julie Joubert documents the journey of young recruits, from their selection to their integration into operational regiments. Beyond the military institution, her work questions notions of uprooting, belonging and self-reconstruction, revealing the individual trajectories that emerge behind the imposed uniformity of the bodies.
This project was carried out as part of the national photographic commission of Regards du Grand Paris, Ateliers Médicis and the Centre national des arts plastiques.
Julie Joubert's Patria Nostra series will, in parallel, be published by Éditions Loose Joints Publishing
