Directed by Murnau and released in 1927, L’Aurore (Sunrise) is a landmark film, praised as one of the high points in cinema history.
" A true technical and narrative feat, it invented unprecedentedly fluid camera movements and is also one of the first feature films to benefit from a synchronized soundtrack, integrating sound effects and music.
A universal fable about love – as highlighted by its subtitle A Song of Two Humans – L’Aurore has continually inspired filmmakers and musicians. For this evening, Alexandre Tharaud, who readily cites the film as one of his favorite "classics," provides the musical accompaniment.
