In this southern Italian village, everyone has a nickname. Simeone, the brother of young Maria, is called Jesus. He resembles Christ, whose role he plays in the Good Friday Passion. Maria is the young girl who grabs the 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol from the kitchen cabinet. She leaves the house, gun in hand. She walks towards the village. She goes to Angelo the Fool, the young man who assaulted her the day before. The village follows her, eventually forming a motley procession: the president of the hunters' club, the car scrap yard employees, the mechanic, the local bikers, the old school teacher, the neighbours envious of Maria's youth.
