Both an investigation and a contrasting portrait of a mysterious personality, Le Procès de Jeanne Bloch is an imaginary story, interwoven with historical and contemporary references. In an undated era, Jeanne Bloch was the French Prime Minister.
Five years later, an authoritarian regime seizes power and Jeanne Bloch is summoned to court, accused of betraying the people. A young lawyer turns her trial into a political platform, while Jeanne defends herself. The play then intelligently alternates between court hearings and flashbacks of a perilous governmental experience.
As is his custom, François Hien, the author and director of La Crèche, which was presented in 2025, handles language with talent. A gallery of characters parades through, and the acting is rhythmic, directly addressing the audience. A lively, novelistic and theatrical fiction, where values of humanity and solidarity triumph.
