Leïla Mendez — Ciné-concert documentaire

This documentary ciné-concert is one of those rare shows to see and hear with the heart, moved by the power of its message, the rightness of its tone and the talent of its performance.

It grew out of an interview with Annette Cabelli Florentin (born in Greece in 1925, deported in 1943 and arriving in France at the Liberation), conducted by Leïla Mendez, singer with the group Yaïa.

Annette, de mare a hija ("Annette, from mother to daughter") is structured as a dialogue between filmed testimony (Annette's life, her childhood memories, her life in the camps, the songs in Judeo-Spanish that surface from her memory) and the arrangements of four musicians who reimagine the Sephardic romances with electric guitars, double bass, clarinet, percussion and voice.
