Because they touch on intimacy, violence, shame, or fear, some words sometimes remain unspoken for a long time. Yet, no society can claim to fight against violence that it refuses to hear. Creating the conditions for this listening is a collective responsibility.

“Lever la main droite” (Raise the Right Hand) is the gesture one makes in court when swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. But it is also the title of Cécile Becamel’s moving text that the Théâtre de la Concorde has chosen to bring to the stage.

In a courthouse waiting room, two women who are victims of domestic violence meet. One is ready to testify, the other refuses to speak. A fragile, sometimes painful dialogue ensues between them, where certainties waver and each tries to understand the path taken by the other.

Carried by the voices of Irène Jacob and Maud Wyler, this reading explores the mechanisms of control, the invisible fractures left by violence, and the difficulty of rebuilding self-confidence and trust in others. A work about true listening, repair, and the power of words.
