MOMOKO GILL x MELISSA WEIKART TRIO

Momoko Gill at Bal Chavaux

As part of Les Femmes S'en Mêlent

MOMOKO GILL (uk)

After a childhood split between the USA and Japan, Momoko Gill settled in London and made her mark within the extraordinary creative ferment of the local experimental music scene. Drummer, keyboardist, producer, composer and singer, she has played with Alabaster DePlume, Tirzah, Coby Ses and Nadeem Din-Gabisi. With her deeply expressive voice, she has just released her first album on Strut, produced by Matthew Herbert. On the fringes of spiritual jazz, trip hop and Brazil, Momoko Gill,

her delicate drumming and watercolour voice chart new musical territories, both radical and welcoming.

MELISSA WEIKART trio (fr/us)

Franco-American musician Melissa Weikart shares a relationship of seemingly unconditional love with her piano. Two voices that meet, complement each other and evolve in parallel, from their classical beginnings to more experimental horizons, always united despite aesthetic shifts and changing desires.

Also a member of the duo Béatrice Melissa, she bends pop into strange forms on her own, nourished by jazz, 1970s folk pop and a deep practice of improvisation, initiated notably at the New England Conservatory in Boston.

Winner of the Nancy Jazz Pulsations 2022 showcase award and the instrumentalist prize at the 2023 La Défense National Jazz Competition, Melissa Weikart now asserts herself as an artist apart. She will be accompanied by her musicians Mackenzie Leighton and Jesa to introduce us to the tracks of her new album (released 9 October on Midnight Special).
