Overview
Moses Boyd at La Bellevilloise
Super! presents Moses Boyd in concert on 25 March 2027 at La Bellevilloise
Moses Boyd, drummer, composer and producer nominated for the Mercury Prize and winner of a MOBO Award, returns with his first album in six years. Songs For Sinners is the record he has been working towards since the beginning of his career in music. A deeply personal work, it explores faith as a profoundly human experience, capable at once of soothing, dividing, unsettling and comforting.
Across an ambitious album, carried by voices and blending gospel, jazz, sound system culture, Caribbean rhythms, 808 basslines and enthralling choral harmonies, Boyd pushes the boundaries of contemporary jazz to make it a language all his own. The album draws on the church of his childhood, the London sound system scene that shaped him, and the freedom of improvisation, questioning what sacred music can become once it is freed from convention.
