Orchestre Divertimento

in agreement with Orchestre Divertimento.

For this performance of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in its chamber orchestra version, Divertimento offers a reading that highlights transparency, clarity of line and precision in the instrumental dialogues. The work is inspired by paintings, poems, nature and Mahler's personal history.

The reduced number of players allows the work to be approached with a new sense of intimacy, revealing the subtlety of the timbres and the expressive intensity that characterise Mahler's writing.

A lighting design accompanies the performance. It underlines the atmospheres, the transitions and the great dynamic sweeps of the symphony. This artistic approach aims to offer audiences a renewed experience of the work, combining musical rigour, legibility of the textures and a sensitive highlighting of Mahler's universe. We want the audience to be immersed in Gustav Mahler's creative process, to discover the conditions under which the work was conceived.

The energy, moods and passions through which Gustav Mahler allowed himself to be swept in order to compose this 1st symphony, known as 'Titan'. We share the torments of a man confronting this titanic work, presented here in a very particular version for chamber orchestra.
