GERSHWIN - RHAPSODY IN BLUE Throughout his life, Gershwin interwove the European classical heritage with American popular culture.

GERSHWIN - RHAPSODY IN BLUE

Throughout his life, Gershwin interwove the European classical heritage with American popular culture. His Rhapsody in Blue is the perfect example. Close to a piano concerto without observing its formal framework, it unfolds in a single continuous movement. An excellent improviser, Gershwin invented some of the solos at the time of the premiere, before transcribing them afterwards. The Concerto in F and the symphonic poem An American in Paris are also the fruit of rich cultural fusions. Alongside Éric Le Sage, the Ellipsos saxophone quartet brings brilliant, warm colours to this repertoire, underlining its original link with the world of jazz.
