Requiem de Gounod

Completed a few months before the death of Charles Gounod, the Requiem in C major occupies a singular place in his catalogue. Shaped by a writing that is both restrained and expressive, this testamentary work offers a musical meditation in which gentleness and clarity prevail over pathos, conveying a serene vision of spirituality.

Students from the organ class of Helga Schauerte-Maubouet and the cello class of Stephan Soeder come together for a concert built around encounter and discovery.

The programme offers a sensitive dialogue between two instruments with complementary timbres, through works from different periods, from the Baroque to the twentieth century.

Away from the Conservatoire, the students take over the Église évangélique allemande and discover the organ in its natural setting: an instrument of exceptional dimensions, whose richness of timbre and sonic power invite a different way of listening and playing.

Situated in the heart of the 9th arrondissement, the Église

évangélique allemande, built in the nineteenth century,

is an emblematic venue of Parisian musical life. Its remarkable acoustics provide an ideal setting for this dialogue between organ and cello.

Intended primarily for third-cycle students, this project offers them a unique artistic experience, combining musical rigour, autonomy, ensemble work and discovery of an instrumental and cultural heritage.
