Overview
A figurehead of Quebec chanson, Robert Charlebois returns to Paris for a series of concerts at the Grand Rex. An opportunity to rediscover on stage the energy and verve of a truly unclassifiable artist.
Robert Charlebois, born in 1944 in Montreal, is a singer-songwriter, musician and actor who has left a deep mark on the Quebec and French-speaking music scene. From the late 1960s onwards, he established himself with an innovative style blending rock, folk and jazz, and with lyrics that were often surrealist and politically engaged. Backed by talented musicians, he forged a unique sound, often tinged with a psychedelic touch, that shook up the conventions of traditional chanson.
His album « Lindberg » (1968), recorded with Louise Forestier, is often cited as a major milestone in his discography, as are « Québec Love » (1969) and « La maudite machine » (1972).
Charlebois is recognised for his singular writing, capable of moving from the most refined poetry to the most offbeat humour, always with great freedom of tone. Songs such as « Je reviendrai à Montréal », « Ordinaire » and « Lindberg » have become classics, crossing generations. Over the decades he has maintained his artistic relevance, exploring different genres while keeping his own distinct identity. His influence can be felt in many Quebec and French artists, who have drawn on his boldness and creativity.
On stage, Robert Charlebois is known for his charismatic presence and his sense of performance. His concerts are often described as intense moments of shared experience, in which the artist communicates a contagious energy to the audience. He brings together a mix of iconic songs and more recent numbers, always with rich instrumentation and carefully crafted arrangements. This Paris appearance, in the setting of the Grand Rex, is a fine opportunity to rediscover the breadth of his repertoire and his talent as a performer, in a hall that has welcomed so many legends.
The Grand Rex, with its Art Deco architecture and rich history, provides an ideal setting for Robert Charlebois's world. Opened in 1932, this legendary hall on the boulevard Poissonnière is known for its acoustics and warm atmosphere, well suited to major musical evenings. It is in this venue, steeped in history, that the Quebec artist will share with the Parisian public the essence of his career, between moments of nostalgia and flashes of modernity. A date not to be missed for lovers of authentic and inventive French-language song.
