About — The artist
Robert Charlebois, born on June 25, 1944, in Montreal (Quebec), is a Quebecois singer-songwriter, musician, and actor. A versatile personality, he constantly reinvents himself over the years.
A lyricist but above all a singer-songwriter and stage performer, he sets to music texts by Réjean Ducharme, Marcel Sabourin, Claude Péloquin, Claudine Monfette (Mouffe), Arthur Rimbaud, Daniel Thibon, Alfred Jarry, and Marcel Beauchamp. In the 1970s, while published by Barclay records, he undertook a tumultuous French tour with Léo Ferré. In cinema, in 1967, he played a supporting role in Entre la mer et l'eau douce, by Michel Brault. The following year, he took on a lead role in Jusqu'au cœur, by Jean Pierre Lefebvre. He composed several film scores, including, in 1970, that of the popular Deux Femmes en or, by Claude Fournier. In 1975, alongside Terence Hill and Miou-Miou, he starred in the spaghetti western Un génie, deux associés, une cloche produced by Sergio Leone.
He is considered one of the greats of Quebecois song, alongside Félix Leclerc and Gilles Vigneault, with whom he recorded the show J'ai vu le loup, le renard, le lion in 1974, and Claude Léveillé and Jean-Pierre Ferland, with whom he recorded the show 1 fois 5 in 1976. His influence is significant on other artists, such as Daniel Boucher.
For twelve years, he dedicated himself to beer production in microbreweries and was for some time vice-president of the Unibroue company.
He is a recipient of the National Order of Quebec and the Order of Canada.
