Seb Lowe • Kate Couriel

This evening will delight fans of… Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes & Wilco!

SEB LOWE (22:30) (Indie folk - Manchester, UK) Meet Seb Lowe, the rising star of the British indie scene, just 22 years old, leading a band made up of Kate Couriel on violin and Joel Goodwin on drums.

Drawing on a wide range of artists, including Sinead O'Connor, Led Zeppelin, Arctic Monkeys, Eminem and David Bowie, Seb's music reflects a clever blend of these influences.

While his songs tackle burning issues such as social injustice, politics, sexism and much more, Seb's wit, humour and melodic sensitivity ensure they are delivered with nuance and accessibility.

He places great importance on the power of words to spark constructive conversations, even among people who might seem to have nothing in common.

KATE COURIEL (21:30) (Folk - Manchester, UK) Kate Couriel is an electric violinist based in Manchester, best known for her central role in Seb Lowe's band.

Coming from a classical background, Kate developed a high level of technique, good enough to join the Hallé Youth Orchestra, where she was then the youngest musician.

Once her training was complete, Kate began exploring the electric violin in order to push the instrument's conventional limits and venture into a broad range of musical genres.

As lead violinist on the debut album by K, which entered the charts, Kate added baroque-style flourishes to their indie rock sound.

With Seb Lowe's band, Kate draws on classical, folk, theatrical, punk and rock music to showcase Seb's powerful lyricism, developing what has been described as a "sound unlike any other".

She has been said to "energise the songs with the dramatic edge that her strings bring to rock music".
