Overview
Shovel Dance Collective at La Maroquinerie
Made up of nine musicians, Shovel Dance Collective reimagines the traditional music of Great Britain, Ireland and beyond. They regard folk music not as an archaeological artefact to be unearthed, but as a living, communal activity: welcoming, generous and open.
Blending improvisation and experimentation, their music emerges as a patchwork whose pieces are stitched together, rearranged and recontextualised.
The thread is woven with a profound sense of how traditional music carries the voices of the oppressed and of those who, through their labour, create the wealth of the world.
