Slah Mosbah

Concert

A legend of Tunisian music, Slah Mosbah is a singer, musician, and composer, born in Bardo, near Tunis. He has distinguished himself with his voice and his dedication to the country's musical heritage. From the Afro-Tunisian community, he has been committed for many years to fighting racism in Tunisia. Through his speeches and his work, he champions equality, dignity, and the recognition of the diversity that makes up Tunisian society.

In 1991, his cover of Yamma lasmar douni (Mother, is the brown man bad?) propelled him to the forefront of the scene. The song, a painful memory of slavery abolished in Tunisia in 1846, marked an entire generation. But instead of opening him up to other repertoires, success confined him. “They put me in a box: that of the token Black person. The one tolerated as long as they entertain, as long as they folklorise. But I am a man, not an icon.” Slah Mosbah doesn't just sing to please. He sings to do justice. To his voice. To his memory. To his people.*

Here he is at La Cave Poésie, as part of the Méditerranée 2026 season for an exceptional concert.
