SOLAXIS is an unparalleled ensemble: From baritone to soprano, the entire saxophone family is brought together for a summit meeting of five exceptional female musicians, renowned soloists whose paths have crossed for years, both on stage and in the studio. Saxophonist Lisa Cat-Berro (nominated for the Victoires du Jazz 2013) brought them together and took on the challenge of composing for this atypical formation, with the starting point being the desire to explore all the sonic possibilities offered by a saxophone quintet and to sublimate this instrument. Added to this is a solid bass/drum rhythm section provided by two pillars of the Parisian jazz groove scene. Carried by this custom-crafted repertoire, each soloist can then express her own personality, revealing seven strong and singular temperaments. Skilfully navigating between jazz, instrumental pop, 70s electro, and afro-beat, SOLAXIS captivates us with a dense sound, sculpted from the mass, sophisticated arrangements, and an intense groove, a kaleidoscope of hypnotic motifs driven by a flawless rhythm section. Conceived as a true manifesto, this group, with its powerful and inspiring energy, proudly champions the saxophone.
