Songline

A devotee of wide-ranging repertoires, Marc Mauillon is one of the most atypical singers of his generation. Inspired by Bruce Chatwin's The Songlines, he charts his own course across the centuries and invites listeners on a deeply personal, solitary journey.

His versatility of timbre and deep curiosity for diverse repertoires inspire him to pursue off-the-beaten-track projects.

Following in the footsteps of Bruce Chatwin, the writer of nomadic lives who documented the "songlines" of Australian Aborigines, Marc Mauillon creates his own vocal cosmogony made up of medieval figures and composers from the 20th and 21st centuries.

And, drawing close to them, he bridges the gap—despite the distance of time, geographies, and vocal styles.

The voice, laid bare in the sobriety of monody, radiates with exemplary diction, a constantly precise intention, and an intensity that remind us that the tenor, regularly called upon to teach the keys of the medieval repertoire, is also an enlightened and passionate interpreter of contemporary creation.
