Overview

Presented by La Collectivité Territoriale-Mairie After centuries of slavery, violence and humiliation, the Afro-American population finally manages to make its voice heard… In the 1950s, Black Americans began to bring white power to its knees.

The whole world had its eyes fixed on this country, which represented progress, the future, the dream, “The American Dream”. Martin LUTHER KING, Malcom X, Rosa PARKS and Angela DAVIS would change the country for ever.

This revolution, more than any other, was accompanied by SOUL MUSIC, the soundtrack of an entire era. In this new show, Thomas DOUCET and his companions tell the story of the role some Soul artists and their songs played in the evolution of their country.

Live music, video and images intertwine to bring these powerful years back to life. With Ray CHARLES, Nina SIMONE, or Marvin GAYE, words and notes changed the course of history. SOUL POWER!
