Written in 1999 by the poet and playwright Jean-Pierre Siméon, Stabat Mater Furiosa is a dramatic poem of rare power, a theatrical monologue that stands as one of the most violent and most beautiful indictments of war in contemporary literature.

Where the traditional myth imposes the figure of a passive woman, crushed by grief, Jean-Pierre Siméon makes a radical change: his mater is not sorrowful, she is furious. Alone, facing the invisible din of a war without name and without era, a woman stands tall.

Around her, the destructive madness of men. Before her, "the man of war", that universal figure who destroys, rapes and plunders in the name of abstract ideologies. Refusing the role of sacrificial victim assigned to her, she refuses to weep.

Her tears turn into a word of fire, a fleshly and visceral invective. She accuses, she dissects the stupidity of violence. Her speech becomes a poetic weapon of mass destruction capable of cracking the certainty of the executioners.
