Overview

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen today make up Take That and carry on the legacy of one of the most popular acts in the history of the British charts, with more than 45 million albums sold worldwide and 12 songs reaching No. 1 in the United Kingdom.

Formed in 1989 as a five-piece, the group enjoyed immediate success with its first two albums, which reached No. 2 and No. 1 in the British charts respectively.

Their third album, Nobody Else, confirmed their international dominance: it sold more than six million copies and topped the charts in 11 countries.

Robbie Williams's departure led to the group's split in 1996, followed by nine years away from the stage, before the four remaining members reunited for The Ultimate Tour in 2005.

This comeback marked one of the greatest returns in the history of British music, with Take That going on to score three No. 1 albums in just four years.

Robbie Williams's return for Progress, in 2011, enabled them to break several records in the United Kingdom, notably those for the fastest-selling album of the 21st century and the fastest-selling tour of all time.

Williams's second departure, together with that of Jason Orange, ultimately left Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen to continue the adventure as a trio. They released III, then Wonderland in 2017, certified platinum and gold respectively.

2026 promises to be an exceptional year for the group, with the release in February of a Netflix documentary that became the No.

1 most-watched title, the conclusion of their huge stadium tour The Circus Live, which sold more than 736,000 tickets, as well as the release of their 10th studio album, scheduled later in the year.
