"Emerging from the fertile Amiens underground, Claire Gapenne, real name, cobbles together music that sounds like no one else's, somewhere between industrial swing and introverted derision. She impresses on stage as much as on her already eighth album, « Jazz Band Theory ».
Lately Claire Gapenne has taken up painting, soft things: a big beat toad topped with organdie ribbons, sea snails frothing around the rim of a dog bowl, a little girl in shorts drowning in a bottle of liquid soap.
In these motifs of slobbery acrylic, as in the stage name Terrine, under which Gapenne has performed since 2013, one is tempted to see a marked taste for the sticky. That is not entirely wrong.
Terrine grew up in the waste oil of the Amiens underground, within the noise collective Headwar and L'Accueil froid, a grassroots nursery of musicians with names as flowery (Hache tendre, Suce-pendus) as those of their cousins from Metz in the Grande Triple Alliance internationale de l'Est (Scorpion Violente, Crack und Ultra Eczema).
"Terrine", in the middle of this gang, is literally a family name, but it is also a manifesto. It needed a name that would float the pâté away, but a feminine one, so: Terrine, the feminine of pâté. " s
