Overview
With their previous album, Holocene, The Ocean closed their series of albums inspired by palaeontology, which had begun in 2007 with Precambrian, thereby marking a turn towards electronic territory while paying tribute to the powerful sonorities that form their trademark. This change of thematic direction was accompanied by a significant reshuffle of the line-up, the results of which are clearly audible on Solaris, released in 2026.
This album offers a critique of the underlying motivations and the psychological dispositions that characterise the spirit of exploration and the thirst for power. It is an existential interrogation, a reflection on the raison d'être of technological progress, in light in particular of the destruction of our habitat.
