Overview
Presented by L'Autre Canal.
In Mali, there is a popular proverb saying that life has a family name: change. It is a saying Vieux Farka Touré has followed throughout his career, across a series of adventurous explorations and cross-border collaborations.
Another, more universal saying tells us that to know where we are going, we must first know where we come from. This essential human need to embrace one's heritage lies at the heart of Les Racines. The title says a great deal, as the album represents a profound reconnection with the traditional Songhai music of northern Mali, one of the musical traditions of northern West Africa. In the West, it is known under the label of "Tuareg Blues".
