About — The artist
Amorphis is a Finnish melodic death metal, progressive metal, and folk metal band, originating from Uusimaa, Helsinki. It was formed by Esa Holopainen, Tomi Koivusaari, Olli-Pekka Laine, and Jan Rechberger in 1990. Initially performing progressive death/doom metal with some gothic metal nuances, their musical style has evolved towards modern and melodic metal. They frequently use the Kalevala, an epic from Finnish mythology, as inspiration for their lyrics. The band abandoned the guttural vocals of their early days in 1999 before partially reintroducing them in 2006 with the arrival of singer Tomi Joutsen.
