About — The artist
Monique Serf, known as Barbara, was a French singer-songwriter, born on 9 June 1930 in Paris 17th arrondissement and who died on 24 November 1997 in Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine).
Her poetry, enhanced by the harmony of her compositions and the subtlety of her interpretations, ensured her a loyal audience for forty years. Many of her songs have become classics of French chanson, notably: Une petite cantate, Dis, quand reviendras-tu ?, Nantes, Göttingen, La Dame brune, L'Aigle noir, Marienbad or Ma plus belle histoire d'amour.
Barbara appeared in three films for the cinema and in two musical plays, Madame in 1970 and Lily passion (with Gérard Depardieu) in 1986.
