Hans Zimmer, born September 12, 1957, in Frankfurt am Main (West Germany), is a film composer and soundtrack producer who was born German but naturalized as American.
Active since the 1980s and gradually specializing in orchestral score composition, Hans Zimmer is known for composing the original soundtracks to many successful films across a wide variety of genres. He has also composed music for several animated films, television series, and video games.
Through his studio Remote Control Productions, he is also a key figure in a system of music creation prevalent in Hollywood in the 2010s and 2020s: dozens of musical artists work on the same film and provide melodies to the main composer, while only the latter is credited as composer. Among these former assistants have emerged figures such as Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell, and Lorne Balfe.
As of 2022, Hans Zimmer has notably accumulated two Academy Awards for Best Film Music (from 12 nominations), for The Lion King (1994) and Dune (2021).
