Tyla, full name Tyla Laura Seethal, born on 30 January 2002 in Johannesburg, is a South African singer, songwriter, and dancer. She signed with Epic Records in 2021 after the national success of her debut single Getting Late with Kooldrink.
Tyla gained global recognition with her single Water, released in 2023, which charted in the Top 10 in the United Kingdom and was the first song by a South African solo artist to enter the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States in 55 years. She received the first Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024. Her eponymous debut album was released in March 2024. Tyla has also been nominated for a BRIT Award, a Soul Train Music Award, a MOBO Award, and two South African Music Awards.
