About — The artist

Xandria is a German symphonic metal band, originating from Bielefeld and founded in 1994 by Marco Heubaum. The band split up in 1997 before reforming in 1999, on a new initiative by Heubaum. Xandria was reconstituted with bassist Roland Krueger, as well as other members from his previous band. Four vocalists have succeeded each other over the years: Lisa Middelhauve (2000-2008, 2010), Manuela Kraller (2010-2013), Dianne van Giersbergen (2013-2017) and Ambre Vourvahis (since 2022). Xandria's albums are often compared to the early works of Nightwish, Epica, or Delain.

The musical style of the band's first four albums, while belonging to symphonic metal, oscillates between gothic metal and rock music. The lyrics of the first four albums focused mainly on gothic themes, conveying the inner struggle with oneself and life experiences. The albums India (2005) and Salomé - The Seventh Veil (2007) are marked by oriental themes in their music and lyrics. After the album Neverworld's End (2012), the band changed its musical direction to symphonic power metal, while collaborating with German orchestras and choirs. The next two albums Sacrificium (2014) and Theater of Dimensions (2017) are inspired by opera-like themes, using an orchestra, choirs and the voice of professional opera singer Dianne van Giersbergen.
