About — The venue
The Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques-Chirac, more commonly known as the Musée du Quai Branly, formerly the Musée des Arts et Civilisations d'Afrique, d'Asie, d'Océanie et des Amériques before 2016, is an ethnographic museum located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, along the Seine quay from which it takes its name and at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, on the Quai Jacques-Chirac. The project, championed by Jacques Chirac and designed by Jean Nouvel, was inaugurated on 20 June 2006. Attendance reached nearly 1,500,000 visitors in 2009 and, in 2022, surpassed 20 million since its opening, placing it among the most visited in the world in its category.
On 21 June 2016, ten years after its inauguration, the museum was renamed after former president Jacques Chirac, who initiated the project. Its emblem is a Chupicuaro statuette.
