Autour de Jean-Sébastien Bach

As part of the Sunday Morning Concerts.

"We are in the inconceivable, yet with dazzling landmarks." René Char. Conceived as an alternative to going to a concert in the evening or in the afternoon, but never before three o'clock, the Sunday Morning Concerts offer a format off the beaten track, for the whole family. Rooted in the "spirit of the Châtelet", with a programme that is at once demanding, eclectic and popular, these gatherings are built around a simple and accessible format: one hour of music, without an interval, punctuated by an introduction and a reading in which poetry, literature and philosophy alternate.

Under the patronage of a figure from the world of the arts or letters, the Sunday Morning Concerts are conceived as an original musical moment, in which renowned performers take part in a dialogue between the arts and society, for an approach to the concert that is sensitive, informed and enlightened at once.

For this second edition at the Théâtre du Châtelet, the programme is built around four events, ranging from the chamber music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to the solo cello works of Johann Sebastian Bach, by way of a tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven and a look at the solo piano repertoire of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

This programme places the emphasis on contemplation and reflection, with an accessible approach, for everyone. Running beneath it, as suggested by the extract from a letter written by the poet and resistance fighter René Char to his friend Francis Curel during the Second World War, the Sunday Morning Concerts are, first and foremost, an invitation to ecstasy, in the fine setting of the Grande Salle of the Théâtre du Châtelet.
