A title that sounds like an oxymoron. Opening night in a grand Stockholm theatre. The two main roles are played by Alma and Robert, a couple both on and off stage. This show marks Alma's big return to the spotlight. The celebration continues in their living room, in the company of Hedda, a friend and actress who has been out of the game for a few years, and her husband Jonas, a psychologist. Alcohol loosens tongues, lifts inhibitions; Alma and Robert settle their scores, though in truth they settle nothing and only deepen the abyss of resentment that separates them: they have the most hurtful words for each other, under the amused then embarrassed gaze of Hedda and Jonas. When it comes to reproaches and low blows, they are not to be outdone. Infidelity is one of the major subjects of this battlefield. In this great unburdening, there are no winners, only losers, life's wounded, frustrated at no longer performing or not having had children.
