417 (1816)Lively, fast, unpredictable, Joan Tower's Chamber Dance opens this programme with mastery. The American composer, true to her habit of handling compact forms, sets up an immediately perceptible tension.

The desks light up then fade away, the pulse surfaces and the orchestra seems to move like a single body. Beethoven's Fourth Concerto then catches the listener off guard.

Magdalene Ho, who showed her endless knowledge of the piece at the Clara Haskil International Competition in 2023, will find an ideal ground there to combine the clarity of touch and the imagination of phrasing that earned her a particularly noted first prize.

Finally, Schubert closes the evening with his Symphony No. 4, known as the 'Tragic', whose title rightly promises a chiaroscuro of supple gravity that leaves room for song.

Holly Hyun Choe will conduct this contrasting concert, which will affirm the broad range of repertoire the Orchestra champions. Don't miss the chance to meet Holly Hyun Choe after the performance!
