Erik Truffaz and Antonio Lizana offer us a new orchestration of Sketches of Spain, Miles Davis' masterpiece, inviting flamenco dancer Ana Pérez to join them. Between invention and a return to roots, jazz and flamenco unite for the best in a luminous danced concert, with such subtle arrangements. The links between jazz and flamenco are not new. Jazz has always been a vampire music, and these two musical genres rely on solid structures to find their freedom. The encounter between trumpeter-alchemist Erik Truffaz and saxophonist and flamenco singer Antonio Lizana is thus self-evident and sealed in a formidable reinterpretation of Sketches of Spain, Miles Davis' mythical album released in 1960. The Swiss musician has often been compared to the American jazzman for his sensitivity, his phrasing, and his economy of notes (like his elder, he only plays the most beautiful ones). With New Sketches of Spain, the tandem nevertheless emancipates itself by delving into the album's Spanish roots. On stage, the magnetic presence of dancer Ana Pérez sublimates the power of the septet led by the two companions.
