From a sordid news item dating from 1949, Marguerite Duras crafts one of her most brilliant works, in which the crime eludes all explanation. Director Émilie Charriot takes on this vertiginous text and turns it into a theatre of the spoken word, always on the edge, between silence and revelation. One night, Claire Lannes murders her deaf and mute cousin. She confesses, yet remains unable to explain her act. Starting from this enigma, the play moves into a murky zone where all logic slips away. An interrogator questions the husband in turn, then the murderer. From these exchanges emerges a fragmented, taut speech, letting the fault lines of a couple frozen in indifference surface. Here, the investigation resolves nothing. It opens up, digs deeper, and explores what resists language. Carried by three outstanding performers – Dominique Reymond, Nicolas Bouchaud, Laurent Poitrenaux – the show gives flesh to a gripping work that probes the dark side in each of us.
